Dr Ellen Wright, a local GP and chair of NHS Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said:
“Many of us like a drink every now and again, but it’s also good to have alcohol-free periods as well. It’s easy to fall into a habit of drinking regularly.
“Dry January is a good indication of just how much you may rely on alcohol and a month off can help you to take an honest look at your habits.
“It’s estimated that the average person spends £50,000 on alcohol during their lifetime and there is no doubt that even moderate long term drinking isn’t good for your health”
Five million people took part in Dry January in 2017 with 79% saying they saved money, 62% said they had more energy and slept better, while 49% lost weight.
